As Nonprofit, Dispensary Offers a Host of Community Programs

TELLURIDE – With a number of community programs in place, Alpine Wellness Inc., has become Telluride’s first and only nonprofit medical marijuana center.

Located at 300 W. Colorado Ave., Alpine Wellness has been providing medial marijuana services to patients in San Miguel County and the surrounding region since it opened its doors in December 2009. Last May, the dispensary became Telluride’s first and only nonprofit medical marijuana dispensary after its boardmembers hand-delivered its state licensing applications and fees over to the Colorado Department of Revenue.

With a number of community-oriented programs in place and more on the way, Alpine Wellness’s mission remains simple: To improve the quality of life for members of the Telluride community and outlying regions.

“I have always seen this industry as something that should benefit the community,” Alpine Wellness founder Jeff Lessard said in an interview on Wednesday. “The idea from the beginning was to establish the business as a nonprofit and give back to the community. We are not in this business to stuff our pockets and walk away. We are here for the community, and we are here to stay.”

As a nonprofit, Alpine Wellness has several community programs in place to assist patients who are enduring economic hard times, including a seniors program, an indigent care program and a veterans outreach program, all of which assist patients in seeing a doctor and paying for medication.
Along with helping patients in need, Alpine Wellness also has a program to help fill the shelves at the San Miguel County Food Bank.

“One of the biggest programs we have going at the moment is our food drive,” Lessard said. “Our patients can come in and drop off non-perishable food items and get a discount for their medications. Then as our food drive box fills, we will take it over to the San Miguel County Food Bank.”

As a nonprofit organization, Alpine Wellness will continue to develop and implement more community-oriented programs in the next few months and has applied for several grants to help formulate those programs.

Lessard said Alpine Wellness has set the bar very high in all aspects of its practice: community service, professionalism, quality of products, and effective communication with its patients and the community.

“We are a continually growing and evolving organization,” he said. “Alpine Wellness is Telluride’s dispensary, locally founded, locally run, and locally supplied.”

The professional staff at Alpine Wellness acknowledges the constant changes in laws and regulations regarding the medical marijuana industry, and eagerly offers education and guidance to patients and members of the public. It has a professional relationship with state and local authorities and is in constant, weekly, communication with the regulatory authorities in Denver, enabling the dispensary to provide its patients and public with the most current information available.

Alpine Wellness is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, call 970/728-1834.
